# Synclet > Synclet keeps a folder on your phone in step with a server or NAS over SFTP or WebDAV, one way or both, on a schedule — over whichever address that remote has on the network you are on right now. Synclet is an Android app by Gabriele Proietti Mattia (https://gpm.name), published at https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/. This file lists the pages a question about it should be answered from. ## Facts - Package name: `name.gpm.synclet` - Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=name.gpm.synclet - Self-hosted F-Droid repository: https://releases.android.apps.gpm.name/repo (fingerprint `C983 7356 6EEC 235E CEFB 7D29 A582 6367 4D80 B432 8699 2BCB 7ACB 3AA4 3CA3 C41E`) - Contact: apps@gpm.name - Languages of this site: en, it - Built by Gabriele Proietti Mattia. - Synclet is an Android app that syncs a folder on the phone with a server or NAS, on a schedule or on demand, picking whichever address of that remote matches the network the phone is on. - Requires Android 8.0 (API 26) or later; available in English and Italian, with a language switch inside the app. Light and dark theme. - Release 2026.10.1 is a beta. Protocols: SFTP (password or SSH key; the host key is pinned on first use and a changed key stops the run) and WebDAV (Nextcloud, ownCloud, generic; plain-http WebDAV is offered but flagged as sending the password in clear). No FTP, SMB, SCP, Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox or S3 yet; other protocols are planned, with no dates. - Directions: upload, download and two-way. Two-way remembers what each side looked like after the last run, so it can tell a new file from a deleted one; its first run copies both ways and deletes nothing. Conflicts keep both copies by default (newest, largest, phone wins and remote wins are options). - Deleting on the other side (mirroring deletions) is an opt-in switch, off by default. Safeguards that cannot be turned off: a pair's first run never deletes and lists what it would; a run that would delete more than a threshold (default 25 % of the files on that side) stops and asks; deletions are always shown by name; a one-way pair never deletes on its source side. - One remote can have several addresses, chosen by ordered rules: if it answers within 2 seconds (default, no permission), any Wi-Fi, unmetered, mobile data, Ethernet, VPN active, always. If no rule matches the run waits instead of failing. Rules by Wi-Fi network name are not offered, and the app asks for no location permission. - A remote can ask Synclet to start Tailscale when its Tailscale address does not answer, wait for it (20 s by default) and optionally disconnect it afterwards if Synclet started it. Tailscale must be installed, signed in and connected by hand once; Android runs one VPN at a time. - Scheduling is the deferred kind only (WorkManager): about every 15 minutes, hour, 6 hours or day, with conditions unmetered network, charging and battery not low. Times are approximate (15-minute floor, Doze). A precise scheduler is not in this release. - Also: run now, dry run, cancel a running sync, a log per run, notifications, an overview widget with sync all and a single-pair widget with sync now, include/exclude filters, hidden-file and size limits, files modified in the last 30 s are skipped, uploads and downloads are atomic. - The app is free to download and has no advertising. Nothing can be bought in the app yet; its terms say some features may later be a paid unlock through Google Play Billing, and that what is free today stays free for existing installs. - No account is needed and the author runs no sync server: files go straight from the phone to the remotes the user configured. An e-mail address is asked only for optional bug reports, feature-request votes and reading replies. - Passwords and SSH keys are stored encrypted on the device. The app has no analytics and no crash reporting; the only data that can reach the author is a bug report or idea the user writes and sends from the Info tab (optionally with a redacted log and a screenshot the user chooses). - Distributed through a self-hosted F-Droid repository, which Obtainium can also follow. Google Play is not public yet; the Play build and the repository build are signed with different keys, so moving between them means uninstalling first. The source code is not publicly available. ## Pages (English) - [Synclet](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/): Synclet is an Android app that syncs a phone folder with a server or NAS over SFTP or WebDAV, on a schedule, using the address it has on your current network. - [Changelog](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/changelog/): Release history of the Synclet Android app, newest first, with a plain account of what changed in each beta release. - [Privacy Policy](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/privacy/): What Synclet does with data: files go only to the remotes you configure, credentials stay encrypted on the phone, what a bug report carries, and what signing in keeps. - [Terms of Service](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/terms/): The terms for using the Synclet Android app: personal licence, no warranty, how paid features may work, and your responsibility for the files it moves. ## Frequently asked questions ### What is Synclet? Synclet is an Android app that keeps a folder on your phone in step with a folder on a server or NAS, over SFTP or WebDAV, either on a schedule or when you press a button. A remote can carry several addresses, and the first rule matching the network you are on is the one used. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Is Synclet free, and is it open source? The app is free to download, has no advertising and contains no purchase yet. The [terms](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/terms/) say some features may later be offered as a paid unlock, and that whatever is free today stays free for installs already using it. The build from the F-Droid repository asks for a donation once a week, in a notification you can silence; silencing it takes nothing away. The source code is not publicly available. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Do I need an account? No, not to use the app. There is no account to create and no server of ours in the middle: files go from your phone straight to the remotes you set up. Signing in is optional, in the Info tab, for reading replies to a bug report, voting on a feature request or receiving a licence given by the author: the Google Play build uses your Google account, the build from the F-Droid repository an e-mail address and a code. See the [privacy policy](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/privacy/). Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### What data does Synclet collect, and where is it stored? Credentials, configuration, sync state and run logs stay on your phone, with passwords and SSH keys stored encrypted. Your files go only to the remotes you configured. There are no analytics and no crash-reporting service in the app. What reaches us is what you send from the Info tab, and only if you press send; if you have signed in, the app also checks whether you have been given a licence. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Which protocols does it support? SFTP (password or SSH key) and WebDAV (Nextcloud, ownCloud and generic servers). That is all in this release: FTP, SMB, cloud services and S3 storage are planned, with no dates promised. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Will it delete my files? Only if you switch on mirroring deletions for a pair, which is off by default. Even then a pair's first run never deletes anything, a run that would delete more than a threshold (25 % of the files on that side by default) stops and asks, every deletion is listed by name, and a one-way pair never deletes on its source side. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### How often does it sync, and how exactly? Roughly every 15 minutes, hour, 6 hours or day, optionally only on an unmetered network, while charging, or when the battery is not low. Android decides the exact moment: 15 minutes is the platform's floor and Doze can delay a run by much more, so Synclet says “about every hour” and not “every hour”. You can also run a pair whenever you like. Exact-time scheduling is not in this release. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Does it need location permission? No. Synclet asks for no location permission. It picks an address by seeing which one answers within two seconds, which needs no permission at all. It does not match Wi-Fi networks by name: Android only tells background apps the network name if they hold location access "all the time", and Synclet will not ask for that. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### Which Android versions and languages? Android 8.0 or later. The app is in English and Italian, with a language switch inside the app, and has a light and a dark theme. Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/ ### How do I delete my data? Uninstalling the app removes everything it stores on the phone. If you signed in, delete the account from the messages screen in the Info tab (Account, then Delete my account and data), or as described on the [delete account page](https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/delete-account/). Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/it/ ### Cancellerà i miei file? Source: https://synclet.gpm-apps.com/it/ ### Come cancello i miei dati?
